From Cluttered to Confident: How One Woman Built Her Dream Van Life Adventure

Michelle came to us a few months ago for help on a project of the utmost importance: her home on wheels. She is living the way many of us daydream about – untethering herself from the grind and living a simpler life. After years of chronic illness and burnout, Michelle sold everything, left the job that drained her, and hit the road in her self-built Ram ProMaster. She needed some help on the final touches of her van build, and we were excited to be able to help (and hear her incredible story)!

Understanding the large scale of her project, she initially inquired about 1-on-1 project assistance with one of our shop experts. Once she realized she could manage it on her own, she became a member and started working in the shop independently – with plenty of help from our Shop Staff along the way!

“I can’t say enough good things about Saratoga Joinery! From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed, supported, and empowered. The team isn’t just skilled — they’re generous with their knowledge and truly invested in helping you succeed. Whether I was puzzling over cabinetry cuts or tackling bigger projects for my van build, they provided guidance, tools, and encouragement every step of the way. Saratoga Joinery isn’t just a workshop — it’s a community. I’m so grateful for the experience and can’t imagine having done my build without their support!”

Michelle's first cabinet! "Those angles were tough!"
She learned to use the band saw to make the curves on the front of her cabinet.
She built this box using our panel saw and table saw!
For her sink, Michelle brought in a panel of teak. She used the drill press to make the holes, then the jigsaw to cut out the opening, and finally the router to clean it all up! "Russ helped me with most everything - he's so patient!"

We wish Michelle the best of luck on her journey and can’t wait to see her again soon! If you’d like to follow along, she’s documenting her travels here.
